Weddings are emotional and if you have lost a loved one it can be even more emotional. There are many beautiful ways to honor your lost loved one on your wedding day. For example, I lost my very young cousin and I honored him by including sunflowers (his favorite flower) in my bridal bouquet. Now I reflect back to my wedding pictures and know that he was with me in spirit on my special day.
What comes to your mind when you think of your family member? Was he/she military and you have his/her flag? Did he/she have a favorite song you want to dance to during the reception? Do you have a special item of his/hers like a ring or necklace that you could wear? You could have a photo memorial display or reserve a seat at your ceremony or attach a small photo of him/her to your bouquet.
This is a very personal decision; there is no right or wrong way to honor your lost loved one(s). Deciding how to honor him/her may come as a challenge though – you want to maintain a joyful atmosphere while still remembering those who have passed. Understand you do not have to honor your loved one unless you want to! Sometimes the passing is too recent or there are other personal reasons and that is okay, so please keep that in mind.
If you have lost a loved one, we offer our sincerest condolences to you and your family.
