Wedding toasts are unforgettable moments – both for the couple being celebrated and for the people who deliver the speeches. However, it is important to plan ahead for these moments if you don’t want them to turn into complete fiascos or simply boring moments.

What are some of the most important do’s and don’ts to keep in mind when creating wedding toasts? We have gathered them right below – so read on and find out more.

DO’S:

  • Speak from your heart. Really, it is extremely important to write and deliver a truly honest speech. Anything untrue or dishonest will be sensed in your voice, in your body language and in the very words you choose for the speech.
  • Write it down, practice it and bring it with you. Speaking in front of large crowds can be quite intimidating – so it is best to have your speech written down on a piece of paper and bring it with you on the Big Day. Furthermore, rehearsing the speech at home can be extremely helpful as well.

DON’TS:

  • Don’t leave this to the last moment. A wedding speech takes time to craft to perfection, so take your time and start as soon as possible. This will allow you to write, edit and rehearse the speech as many times as needed.
  • Don’t be rude. It’s OK to have one-two jokes inserted into the speech – but please make sure they are not offensive to anyone in the room. Also, jokes about Exes may sound funny, but they are a definite no-no on such an occasion.
